"The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show
compassion and the will to help others." – Albert Schweitzer
Serve
At the core of the Christian faith is the call of Jesus to be servants in the service of others. At Saint Stephen’s, our mission outreach extends to the community we call home. Among our missional efforts, there are five ministries to which we focus our attention:
Patchwork Pantry
Patchwork Pantry is a non-profit organization in Harrisonburg that provides a three-day food staple supply to community members.
Each month, St. Stephen's UCC provides volunteers for this vital ministry in partnership with the Blue Ride Area Food Bank and Feeding America.
Join us at Community Mennonite Church every third Wednesday of the month or contact us for more information.
Community Meals
Each Saturday between 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., a hot meal and a to-go meal are provided for the needy in our area by local churches.
Saint Stephen's UCC hosts the community meal in partnership with Harrisonburg Baptist Church about once a quarter, serving a hearty and nutritious meal, packing a brown bag lunch, and providing personal hygiene items to guests.
Contact us to find out when we will be hosting this community meal again - we'd love to help you put your faith to work!
Holiday Gifts
In partnership with the Harrisonburg Rockingham Social Services District our congregation usually provides person-specific, wrapped gifts for children and adults during the Christmas holiday.
Community Counseling
Situated next door to Saint Stephen's UCC on Campbell Street is Community Counseling Center, a private, nonprofit organization offering affordable professional counseling services to residents of the Central Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
The Center's office is located in the historic Will House on the church property. CCC provides counseling services to children, couples, families, groups, and individuals.
Alcoholics Anonymous
Saint Stephen's is proud to support the work of Alcoholics Anonymous to help members stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
Currently, we host the We Can't Always Get What We Want group on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Weekly meetings are open and anyone may attend.
Every Sunday during worship we pray for those on their journey, thanking God for every moment of sobriety.
Calendar
Our church calendar will help you stay informed, get involved, and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
